Artists in Paradise Gallery
Eight months of the year I live in the Florida Keys, just 23 miles from Key West; four months in Western New York which allows me to paint out of doors all year. Having traveled extensively, I think I've found the two best places in the world to live.
Formerly I was Development Director for Major Gifts at the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Buffalo Museum of Science, and then annual giving at Buffalo State College.
Although I have always been interested in art, somehow I never found the time to pursue creating it myself. Living in Buffalo, there was plenty of inspiration from the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, the Olmstead parks and some of the best designed buildings by architects L. L. Richardson, E.B. Green and Frank Lloyd Wright. But it was living in the Keys that finally made me put brush to canvas.
My acrylic paintings are emotional and more impressionistic than realistic. I use full on color and any of my paintings show the love I have for whatever I paint. I've been lucky in finding good teachers and great people to paint with.
I am a juried member of two galleries in the Keys; the Key West Art Center, the oldest continually run gallery in Key West and Artists in Paradise in Big Pine Key. I have won awards in both galleries and in many of the local shows I've entered throughout the years. I am active in the Keys arts community donating to auctions and providing artwork for the Key West Garden Club’s annual journal and the Key West Power and Sail Squadron.
Western New York summers are wonderful for painting opportunities, too, and I paint with the Painting for Preservation Group, Buffalo Garden Walk gardens and with friends at the Amherst Senior Center. Last summer (2015) I exhibited in two solo shows and another with Gary, my husband who took up painting several years ago to much acclaim.
